Chiropractic and digestive issues? Who knew? Chiropractors seem to be able to help all kinds of people with just about every kind of physical concern. Too many times, however, patients just never think to mention digestive problems to their chiropractor. It’s a shame, because chiropractors work with the nervous system, which controls everything in the body. When the nervous system function is improved, by chiropractic adjustment or manipulation of the spine, then the function of every other system in the body improves with it. It’s just simple math.

Many chiropractic patients experience many changes in their bodies other than the ones they are going to the chiropractor for. Some of the changes are in the digestive system. So if you are getting a spinal adjustment, say for lower back pain, you might feel a reduction or cessation of lower back pain, but you might also notice an improvement in the way your food moves through your digestive system. You might also notice that you’re not constipated any longer. You will notice quite a few things after a chiropractic adjustment, because you're not just having a spinal adjustment, you’re having a complete nervous system adjustment.

Imagine taking your car to be serviced and telling the mechanic to fix your wheel, it’s a little wobbly. When you pick it up later you notice that not only is the wheel fixed, but the engine is purring instead of coughing and both signals blink instead of just the left one and he washed the windshield so now you can see out of it clearly and the car can go a hundred and eighty miles an hour now and…you get the picture. The nervous system runs everything. When the chiropractor adjusts the spine he or she is clearing a pathway for the nervous system to send and receive nerve signals faster and more clearly than ever before.

And this goes for the digestive system also. Once the nervous system is better able to communicate with each system in the body, including the digestive system, then each begins to work better and more efficiently. Just the way they’re supposed to work.
