Ergo Chef Knives Can Reduce Carpal Tunnel Syndrome For Chefs
Repetitive movements by the hand and wrist can sometimes invite tendonitis and carpel tunnel syndrome. It can happen by using your computer keyboard constantly while not sitting at a proper distance or angle. It can happen to cashiers at the grocery store who continually use the same hand and wrist motion over and over again. It can also happen to chefs who prepare food and use knives that are poorly designed which keep their hands and wrists repeating the same action at a stressful angle. That’s what happened to the founder of Ergo Chef ergonomic knives.
He loved being a chef and he loved the culinary life. He was definitely cut out for the chef profession and studied hard and worked hard to become successful at it. But after rising through the ranks and becoming well known in food circles, he was stopped in his tracks with tendonitis and carpel tunnel syndrome, both very painful. He had to stop cooking because his hand and wrist hurt too much when he used a knife in the kitchen. Using a knife in the kitchen for a chef is second nature and the knife is used so much that it seems like an extension of the chef’s arm. Without being able to use the knife for chopping, slicing, dicing and cutting, he was unable to work, not to even mention cook even his own dinner.
He soon discovered that there were other chefs out there who had the same pain and disappointment that he had. They were all using conventionally designed chef knives and they all made the same repetitive movements while they were slicing and dicing vegetables in the kitchen. There was a pattern in this type of work and utensils and he and his engineer brother would soon develop and design ergonomically shaped chef knives that would enable chefs to work more efficiently and with no discomfort in their hands and wrists.
They observed every type of cutting action done in the kitchen and noticed how and at what angle the chef’s hand and wrist moved while chopping and cutting.
These observations helped them find the solution to long-term injury and pain from tendonitis and carpel tunnel syndrome. They created fifty prototypes of the Ergo Chef kitchen knives using a rocking motion blade and a handle that fit the hand angle precisely and shared them with chefs across the country. The chefs loved them and Ergo Chef became a company that makes not only great knives with terrific blades, but a great company that makes kitchen tools that keep chefs happy and healthy.
