Ergonomics is the study of designing tools, furniture, etc., to fit the worker. The simple act of doing so can make the job easier, more efficient and can also reduce workplace injuries, which can develop through long term, repetitive motions. Ergonomics, then, is involved with two basic drives: to promote health and to increase productivity.

Ergo Chef knives, (note the word Ergo) is concerned with promoting health and increasing productivity, and with making the job much easier than it has ever been before. It all started when a chef, who was climbing the ladder of success very rapidly in the food world, couldn’t fulfill his chef duties anymore because of carpel tunnel and tendonitis in his wrist and hand. He acquired these ailments because of his repetitive motions cutting vegetables and other delicacies while using conventionally designed cutlery, in the kitchens of some famous restaurants.

Since being a chef was his vocation, he decided to get to the bottom of the problem. First thing was to grab his engineer brother and start designing chef knives that would make chopping and slicing easier for professional and non-professional chefs alike. They observed, tested and researched how conventional knives work and fit in the hand and how they affect the tendons and muscles of the chef. Then they designed and created over fifty prototypes of ergonomic knives and shared them with fellow chefs throughout the country.

The results were fantastic! Chefs loved them and the original brother’s tendonitis and carpel tunnel symptoms virtually disappeared after only three weeks of using the newly designed blades. Ergo Chef came into being.

Ergo Chef kitchen knives begin with a piece of German high-carbon steel being precision heat-treated. This steel will not snap in two and has a long edge life because of the heat treatment. It is also taper ground on the cutting edge, which makes for very efficient and smooth cuts. Any strain caused by a flat blade in the past is gone because Ergo Chef knife blades are not flat, but they provide a rocking motion when cutting. Finally, the handle design is totally ergonomical and it makes sure the forearm and hand are in a straight line, preventing stress and strain on the wrist, forearm and the hand.
