Pillivuyt Porcelain has been making the highest grade porcelain in the heart of France for almost two hundred years. In 1818, Charles Pillivuyt Pronounced: "Pilly-vwheat") founded the company that today is employee owned and operated with a work force of over three hundred and fifty.

These porcelain cookware products are sold in Europe, the United States and all around the globe. They have become world-renowned and are the porcelain cooking choice of top rated chefs. The hard glazed finish makes Pillivuyt porcelain easy to clean and they are an exceptionally good heat conductor that spreads the heat across the entire cooking surface evenly. Their classic beauty and functionality fits any setting; they can be used formally or for casual eating and entertaining. They can also go straight to the oven from the freezer, constantly demonstrating their durability and versatility. The virtual non-stick finish and solid makeup doesn’t stain or absorb odor and is safe in the microwave and the dishwasher. The glazed surface won’t discolor or crack and will resist chipping and is quite easy to clean.

Porcelain manufacturing is a science and an art, especially at Pillivuyt. It can be a long process but the results are certainly worth it. Each porcelain cookware product starts out as a design, either on the computer or in plaster. The item is designed about 15% larger than is needed due to shrinkage during the manufacturing process. When the initial design is done then it is given to the modeler to create a mold.

Once the mold is completed the raw porcelain mixture is poured in and drying and finishing take place. The first firing takes place at this time at temperatures of up to 1830 degrees Fahrenheit. It burns off any water in the mix of clay and other elements, and makes the material porous and rigid for glazing, which is the next process. The glazing compound will give the product luster and smoothness when it’s finally done. Glazing is done by either spraying it on to the item or dipping the piece into a bath of glaze.

After glazing comes the second firing. Temperatures for this firing get as high as 2550 degrees Fahrenheit. This second firing produces non-porous, white and very clean looking porcelain pieces.

Decorating is the next step in the process. Any hand painting and decorating done by machine comes at this point and then the final or third firing takes place making the painted decorations indelible and dishwasher safe. Pillivuyt Porcelain is certainly deserving of its artistic reputation and its hard earned tradition of excellence.
