The benefits of grinding your own flour with a grain mill.

Grain mills and grinders have become very popular over the last few years. They were always necessary for commercial purposes but their use has absolutely skyrocketed in private homes for personal use. Some markets and stores can’t seem to keep enough on the shelf, and for good reason.

Fresher is better. You can have fresher breads, cereals, desserts and pastas, made right in your own kitchen. People always want fresh juice but rarely do they think about fresh grains. And grains are in many of the foods we eat today. We go to the store and throw a loaf of bread in the cart, sometimes without even looking at the expiration date, let alone the ingredients list.

If you did look at the ingredients, the first one on the list is usually, “Enriched wheat flour.” What that generally means is that it is definitely NOT whole grain, (which is the healthy way to eat), and it is obviously not fresh. It means that the nutrients were smashed out of the actual wheat germ and discarded so that they would not gum up the flour processing machines with their texture and mass. The “enriched” part of the ingredients list means that some (possibly synthetic) nutrients, like vitamins, were added to the dough down the line before baking. Most breads and pastas today are processed foods and not whole grain.

There are several good grain grinders or mills on the market and some are better than others. Hawo’s Grain Mills are perfect for home use and they have an incredibly long life. In fact, they are designed to last a lifetime. They are very easy to operate, too. You just put the whole grains into the top of the machine, turn the mill on and out comes fresh, whole grain flour, ready to be transformed into anything you and your family wants. It’s that simple.

The health benefits alone would be reason enough to make the small investment it takes to have your own grain mill. The flavor that the fresh grains will add to your pantry and palette will give you no choice. You have to have a grain mill. You’ll be able to make flour instantly that comes from whole wheat, rice, corn, oats, and any other grain, and you’ll get the greatest amount of nutrition possible without sacrificing flavor.

Once you see how quick and easy the Hawo’s Grain mill works and how your family loves the truly fresh food that you make for them, you’ll wonder why you didn’t get one sooner.
